Only the officers, including Cerialis himself, manage to escape with the cavalry. The Ninth Legion, led by Petillius Cerialis, is ambushed by the forces of the rebel Queen Boudica while hurrying to rescue the besieged Roman town of Colchester. Although not securely attested, the Ninth Legion may have taken part in these operations. Eleven British kings are recorded as surrendering.
